Our Story

How it all started...

1941-1943

Rev. Melvin Griffith, along with his parents, rented a house in Keno to hold church services.

1943-1946

Rev. Griffith joined the Merchant Marines during WWII and his parents, Mr. & Mrs. J.R. Griffith pastored the Keno church. While he was away, Griffith met and married his wife, Maxine.

1947-1957

Rev. Griffith returned to pastor the Keno church and began construction on a church building that was known as the Keno Gospel Center. It took him two years to build it, as he did the work himself. It was officially dedicated in 1949.

1957-1966

Rev. Griffith was called to pastor the Klamath Gospel Center in Klamath Falls. The Keno church was without a permanent pastor during this time. There were different pastors who filled in off and on.

1968-1970

Rev. Griffith bought the Keno church after finding out it was for sale and returned as pastor. He affiliated it with Open Bible, renaming it Keno Open Bible Community Church. It is said that the oldest bell in Klamath County rang out from Keno Open Bible Church. (You can see it pictured)

1970-1971

Rev. Darrell Murphy served as pastor.

Expanding the vision...

1971-1981

Rev. J.F. Deister served as pastor. The property was purchased where the church is now located, on the corner of Hwy 66 & Clover Creek Rd. The 4,000 sq ft church building was built debt free and dedicated in September 1979. The historic bell was placed in the bell tower and remains to this day.

Where we are headed...

2022- Present

Pastor Scott & Angela Carter called to serve at Keno Open Bible.

Beginning in 2020, God had put a calling on Scott & Angela's hearts to serve in ministry in the Keno community. What that looked like, or in what capacity had not been clear. But every time they prayed, together and separately, the little church on the corner of Hwy 66 and Clover Creek would always come to mind. And in the summer of 2022, God set into motion a series of events that led Scott to accept the honor of being Pastor of Keno Open Bible Church. And with Angela's extensive background in worship ministry, she stepped into the role of worship leader.

Scott & Angela are so excited to see God move and are confident in the vision that God has given them for Keno Open Bible Church and the Keno community.
